New Practice Nets Get Financial Backing

The Club's scheme to provide two net artificial wicket practice nets took a giant step forward this week with news that the £24,000 funds for the scheme to start are nearly in place. The final piece in the jigsaw is grant assistance from Harborough District Council. The Council's Executive Committee is being recommended to approve the £4,000 grant that will complete the financing of the scheme, at its meeting on 10 August.

Providing this grant is received, the Club then intends to start work on the scheme at thr eend of the 2009 season, allowing the new nets to be ready for 2010. Nets Fund Receives Boost

First Team Captain, Mark Kenny, gave Bowden Cricket Club's fund to provide new practice nets at Great Bowden Recreation Ground a great boost this week, when he handed over a Cheque for £1552, raised when he completed the London Marathon last year. Mark also raised the same amount for the Cancer Research campaign. Mark said, " the marathon was a great experience and so many people supported me through sponsorship. This was a great motivator for me towards the end, when the going got a bit tougher".

Bowden Cricket Club aim to provide two new practice nets that will enable the Club to improve the coaching facilities available to its members, particularly those in its junior section. The Club has over 80 junior members and Club Chairman, Rob Gomez commented that, the Club now boasts ten ECB qualified coaches and the new nets will help the Club provide a much better coaching experience for its youngsters.

Pre-season nets start for the Club's senior players, at Welland Park College on Tuesday, 3 February (8 pm). New players of all standards are particularly welcome to attend. Bowden has two sides in the Northamptonshire League again in 2009, a midweek side in the Harborough Evening League and a Sunday XI will again be turning out.

The Club's Junior Sections' pre-season net sessions will again be held at the Sports Hall at Robert Smyth School, on Friday evenings (6 pm until 8 pm), commencing at Friday, 6 March. Again, new players are most welcome to attend. Under 13's and Under 15's teams have been entered in the Leicestershire Youth Cricket League in 2009.
